About Leslie Sheinman
Psychotherapy and Counselling can help you unravel your difficulties and emerge into a more fulfilling, happier life. Life does not have to be fraught with problems. Through talking with me about what is worrying you, you should be able to understand yourself and your situation better, and together we will identify how you can start creating the life you want.
My areas of specialism:
- I see men and women of all ages and work with them through a variety of issues including generalised anxiety, anger, depression, inability to make decisions, sexual problems, worked-related stress, and stress management.
- I also specialise in counselling clients through major transitions such as separation and divorce, retirement, bereavement, redundancy and career change.
How does therapy work?:
- During our sessions you’ll discover new perspectives on your situation, unpick assumptions and identify how to make better choices for yourself.
- We will also work towards helping you change how you approach, manage and handle the situations you find difficult.
What therapy is not:
- The therapy which I offer is not about finding out what is "wrong" with you and it does not aim to have you blame yourself for your situation.
- Therapy with me is not jargonistic, and does not aim to immerse you in incomprehensible theories.
- It does not aim to bring you pain or criticism or to add to your troubles.
My approach:
- My aim is to offer insight and an alternative outlook and to create a warm, tranquil, non-judgmental space, where you can talk freely about your concerns and what may be holding you back.
- I became a counsellor and therapist after a long professional and business career.
- My clients appreciate my "real world" experience and that I can help them to be constructive and realistic.
- I want all my clients to feel listened to and acknowledged, and to come away with ways of thinking which they can use to realise their full potential.
- We are all individuals, so I adopt an integrated approach to psychotherapy, which knits together analytic, existential and humanistic thinking.
- By drawing on a number of models I can tailor the therapy to the person in front of me, and develop an approach that is right for them.
- I offer all prospective clients an initial assessment interview free of charge. It’s a chance to talk frankly about what’s worrying or upsetting you, discuss how psychotherapy could help, and establish if we want to work together.
- Thereafter my fees go between £40 to £70 on a sliding scale.
My training, work experience and any achievement
- I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Regents College, London and am a Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
- I also have degrees in law, sociology and professional ethics.
- LL.B 1974, MA 1981. PhD 2003.
